Can I give Benadryl to a dog?

Yes.  Benadryl or diphenhydramine, is commonly used for allergic reactions.  It is useful for hives, post-vaccination reactions and allergies in general.

The dose is as follows:

Dogs 11 – 35 pounds:        One 25 mg tablet every eight to twelve hours
Dogs > 35 pounds:            Two 25 mg tablets every eight to twelve hours

Side effects include drowsiness.  Hyperactivity can be seen if too much is given.
