Can I give Benadryl to a dog?

Yes. Benadryl or diphenhydramine, is commonly used for allergic reactions. It is useful for hives, post-vaccination reactions and allergies in general.

The dose is as follows: Dogs 5 – 10 pounds: 1/2 of a 25mg tablet every eight to twelve hours Dogs 11 – 35 pounds: One 25 mg tablet every eight to twelve hours Dogs > 35 pounds: Two 25 mg tablets every eight to twelve hours

Side effects include drowsiness. Hyperactivity can be seen if too much is given.

DO NOT GIVE BENADRYL TO A DOG WITH HYPERTENSION OR CARDIAC ISSUES WITHOUT FIRST CONSULTING YOUR VET.
